Motor development in practice: A visit from the Knowledge Centre for Sport & Physical Activity at KinderRijk
At KinderRijk, we give each child space to discover themselves and the world at their own pace. Physical activity plays a major role in this. By investing in children’s ‘fun in physical activity’ early on, the foundation is laid for a positive attitude towards an active life, and children experience that physical activity is fun from an early age. This is where our childcare organisation can make a real difference!
Childcare policy on physical activity
Since we set great store by exercise and movement, this has been established in our policy. We have a clear vision of physical activity, which we translate into goals and activities. We encourage staff to apply ‘fun in physical activity’ in the groups every day. You can see how we got started with this in the video:
How to apply this in practice?
The following video shows how we encourage young children’s motor development in practice. We stimulate this in practice with the help of Mini-learning, Movement Games and Talk Sheets of the Knowledge Centre for Sport & Physical Activity. KinderRijk staff are provided with a step-by-step illustration of the relevance of exercise and movement, which developmental areas it affects and which other lifestyle elements are related to it, such as sleep and nutrition. We also use the Movement Games and Talk Sheets. Practical tools that educational professionals can use in the group and in their communication with parents.
