Childcare allowance
Do you and your partner both work and does your child attend childcare, after-school care or preschool? You may be eligible for childcare allowance from the government. This also applies if you are a single working parent, taking a training or mandatory integration course or a pathway that increases your chances of employment. The amount of childcare allowance you are entitled to depends on your income, the type of care and the number of hours you take.
Childcare-allowance level
The amount of the childcare allowance depends on your income. The allowance table 2024 and the allowance table 2025 of the Central Government show what percentage of childcare allowance you are entitled to based on your (joint) income. You can also make a preliminary test calculation.
Childcare-allowance
The calculation of the childcare allowance is made on the basis of the maximum hourly rate set by the government. From 1 January 2025 the maximum hourly rate for day care and preschool is € 10.71 (for 2024 it is: € 10.25). From 1 January 2025 the maximum hourly rate for after-school care is € 9.52 (for 2024 it is: € 9.12). The difference between the maximum hourly rate set by the government and the hourly rate of KinderRijk is for your own account.
You can receive a reimbursement up to a maximum of 230 childcare hours per month and per child. Irrespective of the number of hours you work or whether you work or study, for example.
How do I apply for a childcare allowance?
You can apply for a childcare allowance at www.mijntoeslagen.nl. You will need your DigiD to log in. In order to apply, you will need the number of childcare hours per month, the hourly rate of KinderRijk and the LRKP number of your location. This information is stated in your contract. Do not wait too long to apply, as you may miss out on any allowance. You will be fine if you apply for the allowance within 3 months after care has started.
Changes to the childcare allowance
Things now and then change in childcare. For example when you take more or fewer hours or in case the hourly rate changes. If so, please report this change to www.mijntoeslagen.nl. Please do so within 3 months after the change to ensure that you receive the right amount of childcare allowance.
Stopping your childcare allowance
Is your childcare going stop? Please notify the Tax Authorities immediately. This way, you avoid having to pay any allowance received in excess back to the Tax Authorities.
Have you lost your job and have you become unemployed? Then you are entitled to childcare allowance for three months after the moment you lost your job.
