A recap of the KinderRijk Seminar Day

The end of April marked the first seminar day of this year for the more than 500 educational professionals, who are every day fully committed to the children and their parents at the KinderRijk foundation. The location was beautifully decorated in honour of KinderRijk’s 55^th anniversary year.

This seminar day’s theme was ‘We enrich each other’s world’. We live in a fabulous melting pot of many cultures. Cultural differences are a natural part of our world and embracing cultural diversity is invaluable.

The day started with a plenary lecture by the writer and programme maker Karim Amghar. He engaged us in his story on diversity and opportunity equality. Through his personal story and the knowledge he shared, he got us to evaluate our role in creating equal opportunities for all.

Following his inspiring lecture, a variety of sub-sessions were provided, such as: ‘The young multilingual child’, ‘Opting for children’s talents’, ‘Culture-sensitive action’, ‘Playing with yoga in childcare’, ‘Technology in after-school care’, ‘The joy of reading to children and getting started with children’s books’, ‘Reporting code for domestic violence and child abuse’ and ‘Moving while growing makes children blossom’. In the sub-sessions: ‘Give yourself an Energy Boost!’, ‘The power of positive thinking’ and ‘Speak up!’, the focus was on the employees’ sustainable employability. The Boomwhackers & Brazilian percussion workshop was held for those who fancied a swinging sub-session. In short, there was something for everybody.

Besides an elaboration of the educational aspects, personal development and team building, the seminar day was also a day for connecting and meeting. The grand opening by Circle Percussion was really spectacular, particularly because of the wonderful performance by the directors. The employees were treated to a great lunch as well as a comic intermezzo in between. The ‘finale’, Roué Verveer, provoked many smiling faces. After a drink and a snack at the close of the day, everyone turned back home filled with new inspiration.
