Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have a question for us? Below you will find a list of frequently asked questions we receive. Is your question not listed or would you like to learn more? Please contact the Child Planning department at 020 426 08 66. We will be pleased to help you.
Is there a minimum requirement for the number of days of care?
We offer placement for children at the daycare and preschool care for a minimum of 2 days per week.
For the after-school care, the minimum requirement is 1 day. Would you like to learn more about the placement policy? To understand the process for placement at one of KinderRijk’s locations, we have established a reading guide placement policy.
I want to change my existing registration. How do I do this?
You can communicate the change to our Child Planning Department at kindplanning@kinderrijk.nl.
I would like to register my child at KinderRijk. What do I do?
You can register your child by using the registration form on our website. Or you can contact the Child Planning department by phone on 020 – 426 08 66. They will be happy to discuss the available options based on your needs and wishes.
Can I request a tour of one of your locations?
You are welcome to a personal tour. Our location managers will be happy to tell you more about our educational vision and show you where your child will be developing naturally through fun and play. Alternatively, you can take a virtual tour if you prefer. Take a look at the page of your favourite location.
How do I know when a place will be available at the care centre?
After registration, your child will be on our waiting list. We will contact you by telephone and/or e-mail as soon as a possibility for placement becomes available. The waiting time depends on the location where you would like to use childcare and the days on which you need to use childcare. The more flexible you are in your preferred days and location, the faster we can offer a place. If you would like more information about the possibilities, please contact the Child Planning department on 020 – 426 08 66.
I want to change my current placement days. How do I do this?
You can notify the Child Planning department of your desired change at kindplanning@kinderrijk.nl. Depending on availability, we will offer you a place on the desired days or we will place your child on the internal waiting list for this purpose.
I want to reduce the number of childcare days or terminate the childcare place altogether. How do I do this?
Reducing the number of childcare days or terminating the entire childcare place must always be done in writing. This can be done by sending an e-mail to kindplanning@kinderrijk.nl (please note: this must be done by the parent who also signed the contract in the first place). KinderRijk applies a notice period of one month for termination and for the reduction of childcare days.
This request can be submitted on any day of the month. The day we receive your e-mail will be taken as a starting point for the end date. This means that if you cancel your placement agreement on 13 March, for example, 12 April will be the end date of the agreement. Of course, you can also agree a later end date with us.
When does my child’s placement agreement end?
The placement agreement of day care and pre-school care ends automatically on your child’s fourth birthday. The agreement of after-school care ends automatically at the age of 13.
If you would like a different end date, that’s certainly possible. For this, you can send an email to kindplanning@kinderrijk.nl. Please keep in mind a notice period of one month.
Any extension of the placement agreement can be requested; this extension needs to be requested at least six months before the end date. The possibilities for extension are discussed with the location manager and among other things, depend on available places.
My child has a place at the KinderRijk day care or preschool care. Will my child automatically get a place at after-school care as well?
If your child has a place at KinderRijk’s day-care or preschool and has reached the age of 2, we will send you an email to let you know that you can register your child for after-school care. Once your child has been signed up, you will be given a high(er) priority. High priority gives priority, but does not guarantee a place. Of course, we will make every effort to offer you a place at after-school care. This priority applies, provided that you sign your child up at least six months before his or her fourth birthday.
I would like to cancel my agreement with KinderRijk. How do I do that?
Termination of the entire care place must always be done in writing. This can be done by e-mail to kindplanning@kinderrijk.nl. Please note: it is important that the parent who initially signed the contract is also the parent who sends the cancellation email. KinderRijk applies a notice period of one month for cancellation. You can pass this on any day of the month. Leading for the end date is the day on which we receive your e-mail. So if you cancel your placement agreement on March 13, for example, April 12 is the end date of the agreement. You can of course also agree a later end date with us.
How does settling-in work?
The settling-in period starts on the first placement day as agreed by contract. During the settling-in period, we take time to get to know your child and you, and to let you both get used to the new situation. Settling in is tailored to the developmental stage of children and the specific needs and habits of the children and the parents. Read more about settling-in at KinderRijk.
Can I continue breastfeeding when my child is at day care?
Yes, it is certainly possible to bring expressed milk or to breastfeed at the daycare. You can make arrangements about this with the location manager and educational staff at the location.
What contact moments are there between parents and KinderRijk?
Having good contacts with the parents enhances the quality of childcare. Each location has its own identity, which is reflected in the furnishings, atmosphere, appearance and activities at the location. The same applies to the parent contacts, with informal and formal contact moments.
Informal parent contacts
The most common informal parent contact is the daily drop-off and pick-up moment. Or festive gatherings and the Parent App, where information for parents and the children’s activities and adventures are added.
Formal parent contacts: parent conversations
Using a digital child-monitoring system, our staff observe how your child is doing and how he or she is developing during care. Every year, we have a ten-minute meeting with all parents who wish to have one, when we discuss the findings of these observations. We also check whether your impression of your child’s well-being matches ours. If this is not the case, or if you or the educational staff believe this can be improved, we will discuss what to do to improve the situation.
Progress and final interview
In addition to this annual parent meeting, a parent meeting can take place at any time at the request of the parent and/or staff member. We also offer a concluding interview at the end of childcare.
Parents’ evenings
Parent evenings are intended for all parents who use childcare at KinderRijk. Sometimes these are organised for the entire location and sometimes for the entire KinderRijk organisation.
This may involve:
- A general informative meeting at which, for example, we provide information about developments at the location or organisation, or at which we cover a topic of strong parental interest.
- Theme meeting, where we discuss a current topic.
- Informal parent network meeting, where you have the opportunity to meet other parents, sometimes combined with (the preparation of) a party.
My child is ill. Can my child go to the care location?
Sick children are always best off at home. At the location, a sick child cannot receive the attention he or she needs without this affecting the group. Moreover, in case of a contagious illness, staff want to prevent other children from getting sick too.
KinderRijk’s policy is therefore that if a child is sick, he or she cannot attend the daycare centre. If a child is unable to attend day care or preschool care due to illness, please let us know before 09.30 a.m. For afterschool care, please notify the location as soon as possible and in any case before 11.00 a.m. on the day itself.
You can easily report that your child is ill by yourself using the KinderRijk parent app.
My child falls ill at the care location. Can my child stay?
If your child falls ill in the group during the day, we will let you know. As long as we think we can cope, your child can, in consultation with you, stay at the day care that day. In some cases, however, we will ask you to come and collect your child, for example if he or she has a running fever or feels unwell in the group.
My child needs medication. Will this be administered by the care location?
Children are sometimes prescribed medicines or other remedies (e.g. self-care products) that they have to take several times a day, also when they are at day care. These may be puffs for asthma, antibiotics, or suppositories. If you want us to administer these remedies, we will be happy to do so, but only after you have given your written consent.
My child needs medical care. Is this possible at the day-care centre?
Sometimes parents call on us to perform actions that come under medical treatment. These may include giving tube feedings, administering an injection or measuring blood sugar levels through a finger prick. Generally, home care or the parents perform these actions during childcare. In very exceptional situations, especially in a long-term situation, we may be asked to perform these acts. This must be discussed with the relevant location manager. The location manager decides whether the acts can be performed by the staff and the parent must also give written consent for this.
May I dissolve the agreement?
You have the right to cancel the electronically concluded agreement within a period of 14 days after signing the agreement, without stating reasons.
If you wish to exercise the right of withdrawal, please let us know by sending an e-mail to kindplanning@kinderrijk.nl or using the withdrawal form.
You will receive a confirmation by email after cancelling the agreement.
Is the care centre open all year round?

When am I eligible for a subsidy from the city?
You are eligible for subsidy from the city if your child is at least 2.5 years old and you do not qualify for a childcare allowance. For example, the situation when one parent or both parents is/are not working and/or studying. In Amsterdam there is a minimum age of 2 years. Read more about subsidy preschool.
What are the costs of a subsidy place from the city?
The costs of a subsidy place depend on your income. If you would like to receive a calculation, please contact the Child Planning department on 020 – 426 08 66.
I have a VVE referral and am entitled to a child-care allowance. How are the costs paid for?
You apply for childcare allowance with regard to part of the childcare hours, the remaining hours are subsidised by the city. For a complete calculation, please get in touch with our department Kindplanning via kindplanning@kinderrijk.nl or 020 – 426 08 66.
I have an Early Childhood Education (VVE) referral. What are the options?
With a VVE referral, your child from 2.5 years (2 years in Amsterdam) old qualifies for Early Childhood Education (VVE), a programme that offers children extra language skills and prepares them for primary education. KinderRijk offers preschool care for children with a VVE referral at four locations (VE locations). Once you have a VVE referral, you will receive priority for a placement as soon as KinderRijk has received the form from you. You can email this form to kindplanning@kinderrijk.nl. For placement options, please contact the Child Planning department on 020 – 426 08 66.
What are the child-care rates?
The monthly cost of childcare depends on the number of days you purchase childcare. Rates are adjusted annually.
If you are entitled to a childcare allowance, your personal contribution depends on your income. Using our calculation tool, you can calculate your monthly personal contribution.
When am I eligible for a childcare allowance?
A two-parent family where both parents work or study is entitled to a childcare allowance. This also applies to a single-parent family where the parent works or studies. The phone number of the Tax Authorities is 0800 – 0543.

It is not possible to have the childcare allowance paid to KinderRijk.
The childcare allowance is paid monthly to the parents around the 20th. KinderRijk subsequently collects the full monthly amount.

At the end of January, KinderRijk sends the annual childcare statement for the previous year. We advise you to safely keep the annual statement, as we only provide it once. You can also view the annual statement in the parent app, after logging in.
When will I receive the invoice?
You will receive the invoice every month around the 13th. The invoice amount will be debited from your account monthly around the 27th by direct debit.

What can I do with the parent app?
You can use the app to receive photos and messages about your child’s experience, newsletters and practical information about the location and KinderRijk in general. You can also report your child’s absence or send a message to the group staff. Is your child in after-school care? If so, you can easily use the app to view the (holiday) activity programme.
I am experiencing problems with the parent app. What can I do?
In this case, we advise you to uninstall and reinstall the app. You may still be working with an older version of the app. It may also help to update the operating system of the device the app is running on. If this doesn’t help, you can always contact the developer of the parent app.
How can I change notifications?
Throughout the day, you will automatically receive a notification when new events of your child at the nursery occur. Which notifications you receive can be adjusted per section. To change the notifications, go to ‘Account’ in the app and choose ‘Notifications’. Here, you can indicate whether you want to receive a push notification and/or an email notification or no notification at all.
How do I receive a login account?
Six weeks before your child’s placement, you will automatically receive an e-mail (sender is noreply@ouderportaal.nl) containing your username (e-mail address) and an activation link for setting your password. The activation link is valid for seven days, so please do not activate your account too late. If the link is no longer valid, you can click on ‘Forgot password’ and you will receive a new link which you can use to activate your account.
I have not received an e-mail with login details. What can I do?
If you have not received an email with login details, please check your spam box first. If you find the email there, add the sender to ‘safe senders’. That way you won’t miss out on important information in the future. If the e-mail is not in your spam-box either, then your e-mail address is probably not properly registered in our customer system. In that case please contact the Child Planning department at kindplanning@kinderrijk.nl or 020 4260866.
I forgot my password. How do I request a new password?
Have you forgotten your password? Use the button ‘forgot password’ on the app or in the parent portal to request a new one.
I can’t log in, what could be the problem?
Go through the following steps:
1. Have you forgotten your password? Go to kinderrijk.ouderportaal.nl. Click on ‘forgot your password’ and enter the requested information. The system will automatically send an e-mail with instructions to the e-mail address that is linked to the user name known in our system.
2. Are you using an old browser? The portal works best with Chrome or Firefox.
3. There should be no spaces in the username or password.
Still unable to log in after going through the above steps? Please contact the Child Planning department at kindplanning@kinderrijk.nl or 020 4260866.
My partner and I would both like to create an account. Is this possible?
Yes it is, provided you have a different email address. You can then log in under your own account. You will then receive the emails on your own email address. Please note that each account must have a unique email address.
Where can I view my data?
Under ‘Account’ in the app, you will find personal information about you and your child(ren) and account-management functions. Would you like to see how many points you have received for absence, view invoices or annual statements, or change notifications? These aspects can be found here too.
Can I also download the diary?
Yes, you can. You can download the diary through the parent portal: https://kinderrijk.ouderportaal.nl
When your child leaves our care, you have eight weeks to download photos and the diary.
What is KinderRijk’s photography policy?
Photos of your child are shared through the parent app with the parents of children whom your child is on the photo with, and where you primarily see the photos of your own child. A conscious decision was made not to make any links to social media. It is therefore not possible to post photos directly on Facebook for example. At the initial conversation, we ask your permission for the use of images in the parenting app.
As a parent, can I adjust permissions and/or statements by myself?
Changing permissions and/or statements is an important aspect that must be handled with care, and therefore you can pass this on through a message in the parent app or verbally to a staff member in the group. You cannot create or change permissions and/or statements in the app, but you can read which permissions and/or statements are set down.
Why do I not receive an immediate response to my post?
The care for the children always takes priority over answering messages received on the parent app. Of course, we always do our best to respond in a timely manner when the situation calls for it. If you have an urgent message or there is an emergency, it is best to call us.
What happens once I have reported my child absent?
The educational staff members of the group receive the notice immediately and are therefore aware of the absence of your child.
How about my child’s privacy?
Your child’s privacy of your child is essential to us. Privacy is guaranteed in the parent app and the parent portal. You will only see the data of your own child. The security of all data and internet traffic is organised in the same way as, for example, internet banking. Read more about privacy at KinderRijk in our privacy policy.
Is the parent app safe?
The provider of the parent app provides a secure and protected environment to share information with parents. During the development of the parent app, they have set high standards for security. This allows us to determine which parents and staff members have access and to what information. In addition, all data is securely stored.
Can I disable certain functions for one of the parents?
In case of co-parenting, it is possible to block viewing invoices and the annual statement for the non-contract parent. For all other parts of the parent app, it is not possible to make a distinction in rights between parents within the account. Both parents always have equal rights in the system.
