55 years of KinderRijk
Hurray, it’s our birthday! The actual anniversary will be 27 May 2024. For 55 years, we have been committed to providing the best childcare for each and every child. Every day, we are committed to help children discover the world and encourage them to develop naturally through play.
In the late 1960s, a group of parents decided it was time to have childcare in place, which would allow them to combine work and family life. Together they founded KinderRijk. Now, 55 years later, we have grown into a professional organisation where about 600 employees at some 40 locations are every day dedicated to help children discover the world and encourage them to develop naturally through play.
Of course, we will not let our 55th anniversary pass by uncelebrated. Together with our staff, children and parents, we will have a festive year. There will be fun surprises on the agenda!

Our festive year in pictures
January 9 – the start of our festive year!
Each group at KinderRijk received a mystery box. It was great fun to unwrap them with the children and to decorate the locations with the items inside the box. Our festive year was off to a great start!
In addition, each box contained a gift certificate. Each location can use this certificate to organize a fun activity for the central year party at the location, such as the summer- or fall party.
Together we are going to create great memories this year!
27 May – Hooray, it’s our birthday!
We are blowing out a whopping 55 candles today!
For 55 years, we have been providing the best childcare for every child. It’s time to reflect on our long past, the road we have travelled and, of course, this celebration year!
Back in time: the birth of KinderRijk
It all started in 1969. A group of parents in Amstelveen thought it was time to have good childcare in place to enable them to combine work and family. And so they did and set up Stichting Kinderopvang in Amstelveen, the forerunner of KinderRijk.
The first location was day care De Woelwaters, which was accommodated in a wooden school building on Farmanlaan. In 1969, also day care Spartels opened. This location still exists today and is now called day care Children’s Campus King!
In those days, childcare was very different from today. There were fewer rules, nursery-school teachers had less training and the groups were larger. For instance, there were two nursery-school teachers for every fifteen children aged 0 to 4. And if one of the teachers had an afternoon off, you had to run the group on your own. You just can’t imagine that today! One thing has not changed… our staff’s love and passion for the children!
Over the years, KinderRijk has grown tremendously. We now have 40 locations in Amstelveen and Amsterdam, where some 600 staff enjoy working. We offer day-care, preschool and after-school care to around 3,500 children. We respond to the ever-changing needs of staff, parents and children.
Treats for staff
Our staff deserve a festive celebration too with birthday treats for everybody! Each KinderRijk staff member will receive a delicious treat! And we will also give the KinderRijk seminar day a festive touch on the occasion of our anniversary.
Animal card game for all children!
All children of KinderRijk will receive our anniversary animal card game in our birthday week! Play with us and learn fun facts about animals and celebrate 55 years of KinderRijk with us!
Garland Challenge
Each location can indulge in creativity and design the most beautiful garland together with the children. They will have a chance to win a really cool prize.
A festive year
Of course, we won’t let the fact that we are 55 years old pass us by! Throughout the year, we will be organising fun activities for our staff, children and the parents.
Surprise boxes – Fun activity for the location party
Early this year, every group at KinderRijk received a box full of fun items and (sustainable) decorations to give the location a festive touch! The gift voucher can be used by the groups to choose their own fun activity, giving each location its own unique twist to their location party.
It was a great start of the festive year!
Here it is, this is what we have in store for our 55th year! With activities for young and old, we will make it an unforgettable celebration. We look forward to the wonderful moments we will have together. Here’s to a sparkling anniversary year!
5 July – 55 Years of KinderRijk in Amstelveenz
For 55 years, KinderRijk has been active as a social childcare organisation. Because: “All children deserve a bright future.”
That is what we are committed to.

10 December – KinderRijk donates 55 birthday boxes to Stichting Jarige Job
Every child deserves a birthday!
Some children in the Netherlands are unable to celebrate their birthdays because their families cannot afford it. KinderRijk believes that all children should feel seen and have the opportunity to shine at their own party.
That is why, to conclude our anniversary year, we have donated 55 birthday boxes to Stichting Jarige Job. The boxes will give these children the opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable day at school and at home.
Soufyan, member of the Board of Directors, and the children of the Wimbledonpark location handed over the cheque for the birthday boxes to two passionate ambassadors of Stichting Jarige Job. Even the presentation itself was a party!
